The
core of the Garat project is the creation
of String Quartets (two violins, viola,
violoncello).
The name of the project refers to the Basque-French
singer of the 19th century.
Length of the project: September 2003 -
June 2005
Participating organisations:
• Musikene. •
The Conservatory of Bayonne. •
Eresbil – Basque Archive of Music..
• Institut Culturel
Basque.
Aims
of the GARAT project
•
To know the repertoire for string quartets
written in the Basque Country by Basque
composers. • To study
the musicology of the scores. •
To make that repertoire known. •
To broaden the repertoire by stimulating
the creation of new quartets.
Initiatives
planned within the GARAT project
1
Magisterial
classes. During the two academic
years, six magisterial classes will
be organised. In each class, a different
quartet will visit our centres and
give lessons (three in Musikene,
three in Bayonne).
2
International
“String Quartet” contest.
This international contest will
have three phases and will take
place between March and April 2005.
Added to a cash prize, the winners
will record a CD.
3
Concerts. 12 concerts
will be given during the two academic
years.
4
International
contest to win a year’s scholarship,
for prestigious composers. The winner
will spend six months in San Sebastian
and another six in Bayonne. The
main task of the composer will be
to write a string quartet inspired
in his or her stay in the Basque
Country.
5
The project will
publish the Basque quartets not published
so far.
6
The musicology will
be studied, and later published.
The Project is
being studied at the moment.

Network's Philosophy
The network
follows the modern concept of a library: a library
is not an isolated and self-sufficient element,
but an element connected and closely related to
the related libraries around it. They all form
a great library, the value of which is higher
than the value of the individual libraries.
The structure
of the professional computing programs that libraries
use for the technical control of their documents
is organised into three fields of work:
INVENTORY OF THE ARCHIVE
COLLECTIONS –BADATOR DATABASE OF IRARGI.
DOCUMENTARY HERITAGE CENTRE OF THE BASQUE
COUNTRY http://www.kulturaondarea.org/irargi/
SPANISH COOPERATIVE
BIBLIOGRAPHY OF AUDIOVISUAL DOCUMENTS, led by
the National Library within the framework of the
Working Parties for Interlibrary Cooperation,
created by the Ministry of Education, Culture
and Sports and the Autonomous Communities.
